Although I quite liked this book I didn't enjoy it as much as I thought I would. I felt the author rushed the character introductions at the beginning of the book which meant I didn't feel any connection with any of them until a fair way into their story. The frequent jumps between the past and present story lines was distracting at first until I became familiar with the characters.I enjoyed the setting and Ms Courtenay bought the countryside to life easily. The present day characters were very likeable and I found myself favouring their tale over that of the characters in the past. The story was somewhat predictable with all lose ends tied up nicely in the end but it was an enjoyable ride and I will probably read it again some time in the future.
I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys ghosts, time slip and romance.

Love love loved this book, once again Christina kept me captivated with this book ! Will recommend this book in my Time slip/ historical book group.
Great read, shades of Barbara Erskine though, however I would recommend it to anyone wanting to lose themselves in fantasy.
This story is written in the past and present and flows really well which maintains the readers interest. It is the kind of story that I will read again just for pure enjoyment

I have read other books by Christina Courtenay and I think the reader will find this a departure from the norm. I found this to be choppy reading...dashing from the past to present...and REALLY...ghosts? The writing is fine, but the story left me cold. Not her best work.
Now that I have read this book I realised I really enjoyed it. Ghosts aren't my "thing" but this story grabbed my interest. I always have loved historical romances and this is certainly one with the present day mixed in. A strange way of writing but it worked very well to my way of thinking. A good read and recommend it.
The Silent Touch of Shadows is a riveting story about a woman who dreams of ghosts when she moves into an ancestral house. I really wanted to find out what happened to the Medieval lovers. Melissa and Jake, the modern couple, need to solve the mystery of their dreams before they can find their own happiness. A very different but satisfying read. I loved the contrast between the scenes moving from the middle ages to the present as the story unfolded. Highly recommended.
